A 1999 and 2001 view of the Ball Court, the only court found at Lamanai. It was constructed later in Lamanai's history, ninth century A.D.
The Ball Court is very small, open-ended, and exhibits some unusual construction elements.
In 1980, archaeologists (including David Pendergast), raised the huge stone disc marking the center of the court and found lidded vessels containing miniature vessels with small jade and shell objects on top of 9.7 cu. cm of mercury that probably came from Honduras. It was the first reported discovery of mercury in the Maya lowlands.
